Over the last ten years, Sarah and Stella have made many changes to the way they train the ‘magnificent seven’, and this has meant getting great results even with the most challenging of the exercises, such as walking on lead without pulling, stay and leave – all of which are the foundations of behavioural problem solving and advanced training. Resource Guarding Masterclass   with Sarah Whitehead

Resource guarding is at the heart of much more aggression than we might imagine. This Masterclass will look at how to spot resource guarding in the park, at home, and in classes and consultations, and will look at ways in which we might act to resolve these situations before they become confrontational.

We will also look at the most effective ways to treat resource guarding in dogs, and discuss the pros and cons of some of the more commonly used behaviour programmes. What really works – and what doesn’t.

NEW! Clicker Training for Behaviour Problems, Practical

Date: Friday 27th Septth 2013

Venue: Chobham, Surrey

Max participants: 22, Max handlers 8

Often, the very best interventions in behaviour problems are achieved with good training. After all, most behaviour problems can be radically improved with some excellent and well-timed training - for both control and management, and sometimes for instant results!

Clicker training is fast, effective and has the benefit of giving owners visible results - which in turn adds to their motivation to make on-going changes with their dogs. However, on the flip side, there are times when clicker training can potentially be disastrous for dogs with established behaviour problems, and this course is designed to address both sides.

Come and clicker train dogs in the shelter with Stella Bagshaw and Sarah Whitehead, and perfect your assessment of unknown dogs, your timing, effective cue responses and self-evaluation when working with dogs.

This course is designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice and to make the link between behaviour and training. Don't miss out.

Handlers: £155, Non-handlers £145 – includes lunch and refreshments

Sex and Hormones Masterclass with Sarah Whitehead

Date: Friday 15th November 2013   l  Venue: Chobham, Surrey   l Max participants: 22

Sex education in detail! Back by popular demand!

Whether we like it or not, our dogs (and bitches!) are influenced by sex hormones. This raises many questions about behavioural development during puppyhood and adolescence, the impact of testosterone, the role of neutering, and the (many!) functions of mounting behaviour.

This Masterclass will dare to go where none has gone before, and look at the importance of sex and hormones, and the implications for understanding them in the context of other canine behaviours, such as aggression.

Prepare yourself for a fascinating day! No practical demos (!), but video and case histories instead!

The cost is £145 per person, to include refreshments and a light lunch.

Chiltern Pet Partners are very pleased to announce a series of Scentwork Training Workshops in South Oxfordshire with guest trainer Pam Mackinnon of Talking Dogs Ltd

Dogs love to sniff and smell their way through the day. Why not harness this skill rather than fighting against it? Talking Dogs Scentwork offers a great way to have fun with your dog and tire him out quickly. This can be done at different levels, from letting him work alone while you watch from the sofa to you both being actively involved covering larger, more challenging areas.
